Wagering Requirements: Costs, Rules and Worked Examples

A wagering requirement sets the amount of eligible betting needed before bonus funds or winnings can be withdrawn. Finishing faster is not the same as finishing with money left. This guide uses worked examples to compare turnover, game contribution and theoretical cost before you accept an offer.

For definitions and a first calculation, start with our wagering requirements guide. The examples below are hypothetical, not live casino offers or results from gambling tests.

Calculate the full requirement first

A C$100 bonus with 35x bonus-only wagering requires C$3,500 in eligible bets. If the same multiplier applies to a C$100 deposit plus the C$100 bonus, the requirement is C$7,000. The multiplier alone does not tell you the size of the commitment.

  • Bonus only: bonus amount multiplied by the wagering multiplier.
  • Deposit plus bonus: combined amount multiplied by the wagering multiplier.
  • Free-spin winnings: the amount won from the spins multiplied by the stated requirement, where the offer uses that basis.

Check whether the casino counts losing bets, winning bets or total stakes, and whether any maximum contribution per bet applies. Use the offer's wording and the progress meter in your account.

Game contribution changes the turnover

For a C$3,500 requirement, a game that contributes 100% needs C$3,500 in actual stakes. At 10% contribution, it needs C$35,000. A game with 0% contribution makes no progress, and playing a prohibited game may breach the bonus terms.

These percentages are examples. Contribution rates vary by casino, promotion and game. Do not assume every slot contributes fully or that every table game is eligible.

RTP helps explain theoretical cost, not your result

For a game with 96% theoretical RTP, the house edge is 4%. Multiplying C$3,500 of turnover by 4% gives a theoretical loss of C$140. At 92% RTP, the same calculation gives C$280.

This calculation assumes the full turnover is completed on that configuration. It does not predict your final balance or the likelihood of completing the requirement. Your balance can run out earlier, and actual results can differ substantially. Check the RTP in the game's help screen because versions of the same title can use different settings.

Contribution and house edge must be considered together. A lower contribution rate increases required turnover, but it does not by itself prove a game is more expensive: its house edge also matters. Volatility describes variation in results. It cannot make a balance safe or guarantee that wagering will be completed.

Check cashable, sticky and non-sticky terms separately

Casinos do not always use these labels consistently. A cashable bonus may become withdrawable after its conditions are met. A non-cashable or sticky bonus may be deducted when you withdraw.

A non-sticky offer often keeps cash and bonus balances separate, allowing a player to use their own funds first and cancel the bonus before activating it. It does not automatically mean the bonus amount is cashable. Read the rules for balance order, cancellation, deductions and early withdrawals.

Bet size and deadlines do not remove the risk

C$3,500 of turnover represents 3,500 bets at C$1 or 700 bets at C$5, assuming full contribution. Larger stakes reduce the number of bets, but increase the amount at risk on each outcome. Smaller stakes do not guarantee that a balance will last.

Stay within both your own spending limit and the promotion's maximum bet. Do not increase deposits, stakes or session length to meet a bonus deadline. Letting an offer expire can be preferable to spending more than you intended.

A checklist before claiming

  • What amount does the multiplier apply to?
  • Which games are eligible, and how much does each contribute?
  • What is the maximum bet, including feature purchases?
  • When does the bonus expire?
  • Are winnings capped, and is the bonus deducted on withdrawal?
  • Does the chosen payment method qualify?
  • What happens if you cancel the bonus or request an early withdrawal?

Frequently asked questions

Does higher RTP clear wagering faster?

No. Progress depends on eligible stakes and contribution rates. Higher theoretical RTP lowers the house edge for the same turnover, but it does not guarantee a better result in a session.

Can table games count towards wagering?

Sometimes. Read the promotion's contribution table and exclusions. A game can be available in the casino lobby while being excluded from bonus play.

Is there a guaranteed way to finish with a profit?

No. A calculation of required turnover is not a prediction of profit. You can lose your entire available balance before finishing. Declining a bonus also avoids its wagering conditions.
