A bonus where the casino matches a percentage of your deposit in bonus funds. A 100% match on a $200 deposit gives you $200 in bonus funds on top of your real money.
How deposit match bonuses work
A deposit match bonus is the most common type of casino promotion. The casino matches your deposit by a set percentage up to a capped amount, and credits the matched value as bonus funds. A 100% match up to $200 means deposit $200, receive $200 in bonus funds, and start with $400 in your account. If you deposit $100, you receive $100. If you deposit $250, you still only receive $200 because that is the cap.
The matched amount is bonus money, not cash. It cannot be withdrawn until you meet the wagering requirement. Your real deposit is accessible without restriction in most cases. It is the bonus portion that has conditions attached.
Different match percentages
The match percentage varies between offers. 100% is standard for a first deposit bonus. Second and third deposits in a multi-part welcome offer often carry different percentages, sometimes lower, sometimes higher. A 200% match sounds impressive, but the wagering requirement and cap matter more than the percentage.
What to watch for
The cap determines how much bonus money you can actually receive. The wagering requirement determines how hard it is to turn that bonus into cash. A 200% match with a 50x wagering requirement is often worse in practical terms than a 50% match with a 20x requirement. Multiply the bonus amount by the wagering requirement to find the total you need to bet through before committing.
